JUNIOR MISSION FOR ALL (J.M.A.)
Each year small amounts of money are collected by individual J.M.A. members from Methodist churches all over Britain and Ireland. This includes some of the Sunday School members at S.P.A. and the money they collect monthly contributes in adding up to hundreds and thousands of pounds which helps people and projects around the world.
In Britain the money is shared between mission work overseas (Methodist Fund for World Mission) and at home (Methodist Fund for Home Mission, also known as Mission in Britain). For every £1 collected, 80p is used overseas and 20p is used at home.
J.M.A. is about sharing what we have and making a difference to daily life. Jesus says in the Bible, ‘I have come so that you may have life in all its fullness’.
THE JMA PROMISE
I PROMISE TO LEARN, PRAY AND SERVE
WITH THE WORLDWIDE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST.
SUNRISE HOLIDAY CLUB
For the past nine years at the end of August, we have had a holiday club for children aged 5-12 years. We have craft, singing, Line Dancing, drama and games each day. Each year there is a theme, and in August 2009 this was the story of Noah’s Ark. We have a lot of grown up helpers, all C.R.B. checked, who help to make the week lots of fun for the children. We make a small charge of £5 for the week to cover the cost of materials.
If you wish to know more details ring Avril Phillips 01684 572140.
LADIES CLUB
Ladies Club meets fortnightly on Tuesday evenings at 7.45 pm., alternating with Games Evening. We arrange a very varied programme for the year starting in September, and going on until July when we have a break for the summer. Some meetings there are speakers who talk on various topics, and others evenings are very informal when we arrange our own entertainment, such as a Countdown evening, a ‘Table Top rally’, or making greetings cards. Included in last year’s programme were four evenings when we celebrated our four Patron Saint’s days. We did some Scottish dancing for St. Andrew’s day and were entertained by a Morris Man on our St. George’s evening.
We are a very friendly group of ‘mature’ ladies, and our evenings finish at about 9.30 pm. after the usual tea and biscuits. You would be made most welcome at our meetings but if you cannot come on a regular basis we would be equally happy to see you occasionally.
If you would like a copy of our programme for the year starting in September 2009 please contact Bubbles Nash (01684 564223) or Connie Brixton (01684 569730).
‘LINK’ MAGAZINE
The Church magazine is produced each month and costs 30p, or £3 if paid annually in January. The editors try to include not only important information, but also a variety of articles, some of which we hope will make you smile.
There is a calendar giving details of Sunday Services, meetings and other events taking place at S.P.A. It also includes information about other church-related events taking place in Malvern.
There is a page giving family news and asking for prayers for those of our congregation who are unwell. There is also a prayer page and items for the Junior Church.
The rest of the magazine is filled with various items including poems, articles, and news of events to be held at other local churches or groups.
If you would like to see a copy of the current magazine, one is always available in Malvern Library.
NETWORK - WORLD MISSIONS
Somers Park Avenue has an active Women’s Network Committee whose main function is to arrange events to raise funds for World Missions. There are normally three or four events each year including an annual Christmas Fair. The committee also arranges an Easter Offering collection annually. This is followed a few weeks later, by a Service of Dedication, when all the money donated by the members of the churches in the Malvern Circuit, is handed in.
Network is part of the Women’s Network of the Methodist Church, a movement which seeks to encourage, enable and equip women in the Methodist Church to participate fully in church life and reach their full potential. Further information can be found on the Women’s Network pages of the Methodist Church website: www.methodist.org.uk/womensnetwork.
